Footage from MKL's Headlining Set In Central Park

We have some special footage from MKL's headlining set at the daytime FROLIC event on the Great Lawn of Central Park. The event later carried over to Love, and was also a great success.

Keep watch for a 3-hour set from July 5th Deep Space, where MKL & François K played live together for most of the night. Coming soon...

MKL to Headline Festivus in Central Park this Saturday

We're thrilled to announce that MKL will be headlining FROLIC this year on a bill with four other talented local DJs. More information is provided below, and for any additional details please visit

Popular outdoor dance music event Festivus, now in its ninth year, undergoes a metamorphosis in 2010 with the launch of FROLIC. The new moniker better captures the essence of the long-running annual art and music event, held this year on July 31st on the Great Hill in Central Park. As in previous years, FROLIC is a volunteer run community-based event whose purpose is to bring people of all ages together to experience electronic music in a positive, open air setting. The leave-no-trace event is funded through donations and volunteer support, with proceeds donated to help NYC children's Art and Music educational programs.

NEW RELEASE :: Adultnapper's 'Monitor' with a rework by MKL is out now on vinyl & digital formats

Adultnapper's original mix of "Monitor" is a minimalist, atmospheric house outing with warm, evocative piano chords. Percussive and synth soundscapes wash over the groove adding a stylish, textured dynamic. Conversely, MKL Vs BGSS (members of the group Brazilian Girls) step onto the scene with a live, organic funkafied jam that steps skillfully through afrobeat and retro disco/funk territory without missing a beat. Available on Beatport since the beginning of March, this weekend marks the physical release of this gorgeous record.

Halcyon recently featured MKL's version of "Monitor," saying: "Despite being a fixture behind the decks at downtown hotspots from Nublu to Cielo, it’s behind the boards where MKL’s unique talent shines brightest. In the studio, MKL is a master of reworks – not remixes – reworks. Remixes can be little more than a snippet of a track laid over a different beat. MKL’s reworks take various forms, but suffice to say, you can put any track in his hands – Femi Kuti, John Legend, anyone – and he will fuse it’s musical DNA with his own sophisticated worldly rhythms and signature afro-inflected groove." Monitor is available on 12" vinyl at the following locations:

Brooklyn Girls Sound System (BGSS)

Bassist Jesse Murphy and guitarist Avi Bortnick first gained prominence as members of John Scofield’s Uber Jam Band. The musicians later played key roles in the New York’s NuBlu jazz scene that produced Murphy’s other famed band, Brazilian Girls. This evening Murphy and Bortnick will take the stage together once again at DROM as the Brooklyn Girls Sound System. The band will also feature Brazilian Girls drummer Aaron Johnson, keyboardist Brian Charette and drummer Shawn Pelton, the latter of whom is best known for his work in the SNL house band (the musicians have also performed as the Shity Shity Jam Band).

In celebration of the exclusive release of Adultnapper’s Monitor on halcyondigi, we spoke with New York’s MKL to get to know the story behind the stunningly original MKL vs. BGSS Rework.
In the process we got him chatting about DJing back in the day...............
