Forward Welcomes Axel Bartsch (Berlin)

Axel Bartsch has come a long, long way since spinning funk and dance classics at house parties in the 80s. Since the 90s, he's been an important part of the music scene in Berlin, and has grown from a collaboration with his partner-in-crime, Asem Shama and their Vanguard project to build a solo reputation that stands out in the fore of techno. In the earlier part of last decade, Axel had several releases with Kompakt, which includes tracks its main imprint ('Light In the Dark,' 2006) as well as K2/Extra's revered "Speicher" series.

In 2005, Axel founded his own label, Sportclub Music, with Franco Zeiger and has used it as a platform from which to release his own heady brand of modernist techno. He's taken the time over the years to re-collaborate with old colleagues on other labels. Thomas Schumacher's Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten released 'Radio Controlled' in 2007 and Karmarouge, a Cologne-based label that has done a lot with Gabriel Ananda, put out the 'Kiss' LP in 2008. That same year, Axel and renowned producer Sian both contributed remixes for Gui Boratto's "Tales From the Lab" on Defrag Sound Processing (Italy).

Turning in to 2010, Axel's "Bam and Flow" - which featured three versions from the man himself and a remix from Thomas Schumacher - garnered praise from Resident Advisor and Ibiza Voice as well as other magazines around the globe. During his last tour of the states, he rocked Brooklyn at a ReSolute party and at Make It New - Boston's premier techno party. This year, he will be returning in the late summer to North America, where he will be returning to and debuting at a large number of cities across America, Canada and Mexico.

Currently residing in Berlin, Germany, Axel Bartsch is available for N. American territory via Forward Management. We anticipate a tour around August/September of 2010. Please send any inquiries to
